Harriette Thompson Becomes Oldest Woman to Complete Marathon

Harriette Thompson, 92, sets marathon record

The Charlotte grandmother completed the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on Sunday to become the oldest woman ever to complete a 26.2-mile race.

In addition to setting the record as the oldest woman to complete a marathon, she raised over $100,000 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the 16 years she participated in the San Diego event. Running with her for the entire marathon was her son, Benny Thompson, 56 who took photos and video during the race and kept his mother fueled with carbohydrates.

Asked about whether she’ll try again next year, she said “it’s possible.”
