Harriette Thompson has told her 10 grandchildren plenty of stories over the years. But on Sunday in San Diego, the 92-year-old Charlotte resident did something so remarkable that her grandkids will someday be telling their grandkids about it.
In addition to setting the record as the oldest woman to complete a marathon, she raised over $100,000 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the 16 years she participated in the San Diego event. Running with her for the entire marathon was her son, Benny Thompson, 56 who took photos and video during the race and kept his mother fueled with carbohydrates.
Asked about whether she’ll try again next year, she said “it’s possible.”
Simply inspirational.
