Five Rules for Off-Season Training

  1. Don’t run a marathon in January.
  2. Focus on short, intense workouts.
  3. Gain weight (on purpose).
  4. Swim. A lot.
  5. Hit the weights.

Kind of tough to argue with most of them.  I think I’ll take a pass on number 3, however.  Maybe if I ever feel like I’m down to my optimum “racing weight”, I’ll reconsider.
