The question “What is recovery?” seems too obvious to answer. Surely everyone understands what we mean by recovery? Everyone also has an understanding of the foods that are good for recovery. These are foods with protein, no? Maybe with carbohydrate as well. When I ask athletes and coaches what recovery is I get different answers.

I’ve often felt that recovery, for the majority of us “weekend warriors”, is simply a matter of getting a good night’s sleep along with the time spent at our desk job. Now there may some proof that those things we’ve been doing to aid recovery and feel better during the short-term may be hindering our ability to adapt and improve in the long-term.
