Cherie Gruenfeld is 71 years old and just won her age division at the Ironman Triathlon World Championship for the 13th time in 21 attempts. She caught 70 year old Natalie Grabow with only 1.2 miles to go in the marathon to win her last ever race in Kona.
What an incredible triathlon career. 27 Ironman races, 21 at Kona with 13 wins, and a total of 18 age-group wins in 6 different age-groups. In addition to being an incredible athlete, she’s the creator of the Exceeding Expectations Foundation, changing the lives of at-risk inner-city kids in San Bernardino, California, using the sport of triathlon.
