Although we constantly refer to Kona “Age Groupers”, Luis Vargas points out that when it comes to the Ironman World Championships, these qualifiers (especially the younger ones), are at a level just slightly below the professionals.  Strength in at least two out three sports, exceptionally strong in one sport, experience, and incredible desire and passion are all common traits for the Kona qualifier.
